Rio+Social

Everyone with access to the internet will be able to participate in major issues surrounding Rio+20 – the UN International Conference on Sustainable Development, which take place from June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro.   Rio+Social aims to be a global event that gives the voice to those who want to change the world for the better. Through social media it will make possible a worldwide conversation about sustainability.  Please visit our tab and the page Rio+20, which gives information about the conference as a whole.

Rio+Social will take place on June 19th, 2012.  It will:

  • Emphasize that building the future we want cannot be achieved without investing in the power of technology and leveraging the promise of digital media
  • Let global citizens be a part of the Rio conversations and connect their own networks for positive engagement.

Broadcast of the event worldwide will make it possible for anyone to attend “virtually”, and people in Rio will also be able to attend in person.

Rio+Social will cover the RIO +20 topics, such as: energy, cities, jobs, food, water, women, oceans, disasters and will emphasize how technology, digital and social media can play a role in these.

Some renowned personalities will be present: Pete Cashmore, Ted Turner, Dr. Gro Bruntland and Fabio Barbosa.

Rio+Social is being organized by the United Nations Foundation, Mashable.com, and 92nd Street Y in New York City.  International technology leaders including Ericsson, EDP, and LiveAD are providing support and innovative leadership.
